PES Hawaiian Spore Syringe

The PES Hawaiian is a Psilocybe cubensis strain distributed by Pacifica Exotica Spora (PES), one of the first commercial spore vendors in the United States. Despite its name, PES Hawaiian is not native to Hawaii — Psilocybe cubensis is not endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. The “Hawaiian” name was assigned by PES for commercial purposes and the label stuck. PES Hawaiian stands out for its vigor: large fruiting bodies with broad, flat caps and excellent spore output.

Microscopy Characteristics

PES Hawaiian spores are ellipsoid and on the medium-to-large end of the cubensis spectrum, measuring approximately 9–13 x 6–8.5 micrometres. Spore color in deposit is dark purplish-brown, dense and uniform. Spore output from PES Hawaiian is excellent — one of the higher producers in the cubensis family. A single 10cc syringe provides enough material for approximately 25–35 microscope slides. Caps are notably wide (documented specimens frequently exceed 50mm in diameter).

Strain Background

PES Hawaiian traces its lineage to Pacifica Exotica Spora, a pioneering vendor that operated from the 1990s into the early 2000s. PES was one of the first companies to distribute cubensis spore syringes commercially. The company has since ceased operations, but its genetic contributions — PES Hawaiian and PES Amazonian among them — remain widely distributed.

Storage & Handling

Store the PES Hawaiian spore syringe at 2–8°C (35–46°F) in a dark location. Do not freeze. Viable for 6–12 months when properly refrigerated. Shake gently before use to redistribute settled spore material.
