Mushroom Spore Swabs

A spore swab is a sterile swab carrying spore material, sealed in its pouch in our Ottawa lab. Swabs are the most compact way to keep a dry spore sample and are useful for strains that drop light prints. Our swab strains are Avalanche, Trinity and Penis Envy Pumpkin, sold for microscopy and taxonomy research only.

Availability
Swab stock is limited and strains may show as out of stock. The same genetics families are available as 10cc spore syringes, for example the Penis Envy spore syringe and the rest of the Penis Envy family, in our spore syringe range of 26 strains.

Using a swab for microscopy
Open the pouch in a clean, still workspace, touch the swab tip to a drop of sterile water on a clean slide, add a cover slip and examine from 100× up to 1000× oil immersion. The slide-preparation and measuring steps are the same as in How to use a spore syringe for microscopy.

Swab, syringe or print?
A swab is dry and compact; a spore syringe is ready to drop onto a slide; a spore print shows deposit colour and keeps well. Keep swabs sealed, cool and dark (see How to store spore syringes, prints and swabs).

How are swabs prepared?
Like all our products, swabs are prepared in our lab under 99.99% HEPA-filtered laminar flow and sealed in their pouch.

How do I store a spore swab?
Leave it sealed in its pouch, somewhere cool, dark and dry, until you use it.
